Isodimethoate is an insecticide that belongs to the group of organophosphorus pesticides. It is an inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase and acts as a cholinesterase inhibitor. Isodimethoate has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria, such as Salmonella typhimurium, in vivo studies. This pesticide inhibits mammalian cell division by blocking DNA synthesis and inhibiting protein synthesis. Genotoxic activity has been observed in vitro with this compound, which may be due to its ability to bind to DNA and form stable complexes. Isodimethoate hydrolyzes spontaneously in water and soil, reducing its persistence in the environment.
