Descrizione:
Iron dextran is a polymer of iron that is used as an antimicrobial agent. It has been shown to have regulatory effects on the bacterial strain Escherichia coli, which can lead to intravascular hemolysis. Iron dextran has been used in bowel disease and cancer treatment with mixed results. Iron dextran also has interactive effects on monoclonal antibodies and transcription-polymerase chain reactions. In inflammatory bowel disease, it has been shown that this drug prevents the release of proinflammatory cytokines by inhibiting tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) synthesis.
