Descrizione

Imidazo[1,2-a]pyridin-2-yl-acetic acid (IMPA) is a chemical compound that is used as an antibiotic. It is a fluorescent compound that has been shown to have antimicrobial activity. The antimicrobial activity of IMPA is due to its ability to bind to the bacterial 16S ribosomal RNA and inhibit protein synthesis, leading to cell death by inhibiting the production of proteins vital for cell division. IMPA's antibacterial activity is also attributed to its ability to stabilize the bacterial membrane. This stabilization prevents the transport of molecules across the membrane and causes leakage of cellular contents from within the bacteria, which leads to cell death.
