Ilexsaponin B3 is a triterpenoid saponin that inhibits the activity of P-glycoprotein (P-gp), which is an ATP binding cassette transporter protein. It is used to inhibit the transport of drugs out of cells and thus increase the concentration of these drugs within cells. The structural analysis showed that Ilexsaponin B3 has a chemical structure consisting of an ilexsaponin b2 unit attached to a tetraacetylated ethylene diamine. This compound has been shown to have matrix effect in cell culture, which may be due to its ability to interact with fatty acids. The detection sensitivity for this compound was determined by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.
