Kakuol is a natural product that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It is also used in the treatment of chronic bronchitis, rhinitis, and sinusitis. Kakuol is an extract obtained from Angelica Dahurica, which has been shown to inhibit the production of COX-2 enzyme and nitric oxide synthase in vitro. The active compounds in Kakuol are acetate derivatives that have been identified as chemical structures with antifungal activity against Candida albicans and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The preparation of Kakuol can be done by using preparative high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) for the separation of active compounds from Angelica Dahurica.
