Limonene 1,2-epoxide is a retinoid that has been shown to have hormonal activity and can be used as a pheromone. Limonene 1,2-epoxide is an efficient method for the synthesis of amines from carboxylic acid. It has amphipathic properties and is able to exist in both the membrane and cytoplasm of cells. Limonene 1,2-epoxide binds to membranes by hydrogen bonding with amines on the surface. It also reversibly binds to nucleophilic sites on proteins, which may explain its ability as an anti-inflammatory.
