Descrizione

D,L-N-desmethylvenlafaxine (D,LNDM) is a metabolite of venlafaxine that has been shown to have antidepressant properties in animals. D,LNDM inhibits the synthesis of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes by inhibiting cyclooxygenase-1 and 2 enzymes. The drug is not active against ventricular dysfunction or neuropathic pain. D,LNDM can be prepared from venlafaxine using a variety of methods, including chemical synthesis or extraction from Chinese herbs. The compound is rapidly excreted in urine and cannot be detected in plasma within 24 hours after administration.
