Lenampicillin hydrochloride is an ester hydrochloride prodrug that is converted to penicillin in the body. It has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of bacterial growth, with a broad spectrum of activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The pharmacokinetic properties of lenampicillin hydrochloride are characterized by high oral bioavailability and rapid absorption. This antibiotic binds to the penicillin-binding protein, which prevents bacterial cell wall synthesis and leads to cell death. Lenampicillin hydrochloride also has been shown to have antimicrobial effects in the treatment of tissue infections, as well as chronic oral infections due to cephalosporins.
