2-Hydroxy-5-[1-hydroxy-2-(3-phenylpropyl)amino]ethylbenzamide (HET0016) is an anti-proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) antibody that binds to the PCSK9 receptor. This binding prevents PCSK9 from binding to LDL receptors, which leads to increased degradation of LDL receptors and reduced uptake of LDL cholesterol. This drug has been shown to reduce cholesterol levels and is being used in clinical trials for the treatment of coronary heart disease. HET0016 also reduces blood pressure in patients with hypertension and can be used as a monotherapy or in combination with other drugs, such as labetalol or metoprolol. It has also been shown to increase glucose tolerance in mice by increasing insulin secretion. There are no known drug interactions or adverse effects associated with HET0016.
