D-Leucine methyl ester hydrochloride is a synthetic chemical that is used as a neutralizing agent of acid conjugates. It is often used in the synthesis of ethyl esters and to synthesize 2,4-diaminobutyric acid. D-Leucine methyl ester hydrochloride has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of influenza virus, and has been studied as a potential treatment for influenza A and B. This compound inhibits the viral process of maturation by acting as an inhibitor on the enzymatic activity of the influenza virus enzyme ribonucleotide reductase. This inhibition prevents the production of new viral particles, thereby preventing infection.
