Methyl-5-chloromethyl-2-furancarboxylate is an organic compound that belongs to the class of benzyl ethers. It is a colorless liquid with a strong, unpleasant odor. Methyl-5-chloromethyl-2-furancarboxylate has been shown to be an antiplatelet agent and to inhibit calcium ion influx into platelets, which leads to inhibition of platelet aggregation. It also has sulfhydryl properties and can be used as an antidote for sulfide poisoning. Methyl 5 chloromethyl 2 furancarboxylate is also used in the synthesis of other compounds such as methyl 5 chloromethyl 3 phenoxymethyl 2 furancarboxylate, methyl 5 chloromethyl 4 phenoxymethyl 2 furancarboxylate, and methyl 5 chloromethyl 3 methanethiol 1 furancarboxylate.
