3-Methylthiophene-2-carboxylic acid is a chemical compound with the molecular formula C5H8O3. It has been used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and dyestuffs. 3-Methylthiophene-2-carboxylic acid can be used as an intermediate in organic synthesis. This compound can be injected into mice to study its effects on melanoma cells. The chlorine atom in this molecule is acidic and elutes first when chromatography is performed on it. This compound has three functional groups: a carboxylate group, a methyl group, and a thiophene ring. The carboxylate group is neutral at pH 7 and forms intermolecular hydrogen bonds with other molecules in solution. 3-Methylthiophene-2-carboxylic acid has a molecular weight of 154 grams per mole and a structural formula that consists of six carbon atoms, eight oxygen atoms
