Methoxyisophthalic acid is an inorganic acid. It is used as a coagulant for water and wastewater treatment, as well as for the processing of paper pulp. Methoxyisophthalic acid has been shown to inhibit HIV infection by binding to the metabotropic glutamate receptor on the surface of CD4+ T-cells and preventing the virus from attaching to its host cell. The metal ion can be replaced by other ions such as sodium, potassium, or calcium, which are more soluble in water than methooxyisophthalic acid. The organic solvent can also be replaced with a different one that is more soluble.
