2-Mercapto-5-(trifluoromethyl)pyridine (TFMP) is a heterocyclic compound that has been synthesized with intramolecular hydrogen. The quantum theory of TFMP was used to determine the electron distribution in the molecule. This molecule has also been assayed for carcinogenic potential and low detection, and it fluoresces under resonance conditions. It has been immobilized onto glass slides for use as a microscope slide and has demonstrated photocatalytic activity when exposed to UV light. TFMP can be used as an amperometric biosensor for detecting organic compounds such as glucose and acetaminophen using a gold electrode. The detection sensitivity of TFMP is lower than other amperometric biosensors, but it is more selective, making it useful in clinical settings where interference from other compounds is a concern.
