Informazioni sul prodotto
- Butanoic Acid, 2-(2-Methylphenoxy)-
2-(2-Methylphenoxy)butanoic acid is an intermediate in the β-oxidation of butyric acid. It is also used as a microbiological reagent, where it inhibits the growth of bacteria in culture dishes. This compound has been found to be active against Nocardia and Propionibacterium strains, but not against Escherichia coli or Clostridium perfringens. 2-(2-Methylphenoxy)butanoic acid inhibits the enzyme fatty acid synthase by blocking the conversion of acetyl coenzyme A (acetyl CoA) to malonyl CoA, which is necessary for bacterial cell wall synthesis. 2-(2-Methylphenoxy)butanoic acid also exhibits antimicrobial activity due to its ability to inhibit membrane transport and/or damage cellular membranes.
