[(1-Methyl-1H-imidazol-2-yl)methyl]amine dihydrochloride is a tetraamine ligand that binds to metal ions. It is synthesized from 2-(pyridyl)-N,N’-dimethylethane-1,2-diamine and 1,4,5,8-tetraaminobenzene. This compound has been shown to bind to the membrane of cells and acts as a transition metal ligand. The pyridyl group in this compound coordinates with transition metals and stabilizes the resulting complex through its electron donating ability. In addition, this compound can be used as a tripodal ligand for lanthanide coordination chemistry.
