Methyl 5-nitro-1H-pyrazole-3-carboxylate is a colorless liquid that has a molecular weight of 162.14 g/mol and a boiling point of 60°C. This compound is soluble in acetonitrile, chloroform, and acetone but insoluble in water. It has a conformational equilibrium between the amide group and the pyrazole ring, which can be observed by FTIR spectra. The annular tautomerization of methyl 5-nitro-1H-pyrazole-3-carboxylate is favored at low temperatures and solvents that are nonpolar or weakly polar.
