1-Methylpiperidine-3-carboxylic acid hydrochloride is an organic compound with the formula (CH)C(O)CH. It can be obtained by the reaction of methyl piperidines with acetic acid and hydrochloric acid. This anion is a crystalline solid that can exist in two polymorphs, one of which is monoclinic and the other is orthorhombic. The carboxylate group makes this molecule a weak base, which means it can act as both a donor and an acceptor of protons or H ions. 1-Methylpiperidine-3-carboxylic acid hydrochloride has been used as a synthon for other molecules with cationic functionality. It may also be synthesized as a supramolecular complex with molecular geometry resembling that of benzene, consisting of six cyclohexane rings linked to six phenyl groups.
