Methyl 1-methylhydrazinecarboxylate is a dione that can be thermolyzed to form acetaldehyde. It is proposed to initiate the acetylation of lead tetraacetate by an unknown mechanism, leading to fragmentation and the formation of a postulated tetrazane intermediate. Methyl 1-methylhydrazinecarboxylate has been shown to react with solvents such as tetrahydrofuran and pyridine in a way that produces phthalic acid derivatives. This reaction proceeds via deamination and pyridine hydrolysis. Methyl 1-methylhydrazinecarboxylate undergoes temperatures between 70°C and 100°C.
