1-Methyl-1H-indole-5-carboxylic acid is a tyrosine phosphatase inhibitor that has been shown to inhibit the enzyme PTP1B. It is also a potent neuroinflammatory agent that has been shown to activate microglia cells and induce neuroinflammation. 1-Methyl-1H-indole-5-carboxylic acid is able to suppress the production of proinflammatory molecules by inhibiting the activation of phosphatases, thereby preventing inflammatory cascades. 1MICA is an intracerebroventricular (ICV) drug that inhibits microglial activation and reduces inflammation in mouse brains. The ICV administration of 1MICA to mice resulted in decreased expression of ptp1b, which suggests a potential therapeutic use for this drug in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease.
