Descrizione

[(4-Methylphenyl)sulfonyl]acetic acid is a byproduct that is generated during the hydrolysis of toluenesulfonyl chloride, which is an acyl halide. The reaction produces high yields of the desired product with minimal amounts of byproducts. [(4-Methylphenyl)sulfonyl]acetic acid can be prepared by the reaction of methyl ester and potassium chloride in a chloroacetic acid solution. The compound has been used as a pheromone in optimization studies.
