1-Methylquinazoline-2,4(1H,3H)-dione is a precursor of β-carboline alkaloids. It is a metabolite of tryptophan and interacts with the enzyme synthase to produce β-carbolines. 1-Methylquinazoline-2,4(1H,3H)-dione can be detected in bovine serum and urine by ultraviolet spectroscopy. The fluorescence of 1-methylquinazoline-2,4(1H,3H)-dione has been shown to increase when it binds to amines. In vitro experiments have shown that 1-methylquinazoline-2,4(1H,3H)-dione may have synergistic effects with quinazolone against malaria parasites and antifungal activity against Candida albicans. The constant for this compound is 343.5nmol/L at pH 7.0 and 298
