Methyl 5-methyl-3-phenylisoxazole-4-carboxylate is a protein kinase activator that activates the transcriptional activity of the mitogen activated protein kinases (MAPKs) by binding to the enzyme. This compound has been shown to act synergistically with other MAPK activators and is effective in treating cardiac hypertrophy. Methyl 5-methyl-3-phenylisoxazole-4-carboxylate also inhibits transcriptional activity of the cyclooxygenase 2 gene, an enzyme involved in inflammation and pain. It binds to the cyclooxygenase 2 gene promoter region, which prevents it from activating and transcribing mRNA. The molecular structure of this drug is a carboxamide group bound to a phenylisoxazole moiety.
