2-Methylquinolin-5-amine is a benzylamine derivative that can be synthesized by reacting 1,3-diaminopropane with methyl ethyl ketone to form the diethyl ester. The amide of this compound can then be reacted with formaldehyde and hydrochloric acid to form 2-methylquinolin-5-amine. This compound belongs to the class of amines and has acidic properties. It is also light resistant, which means it does not undergo photodegradation in the presence of light. 2-Methylquinolin-5-amine has been shown to have carcinogenic activity and exhibits aldehyde functionalities.
