Methyl 2-amino-5-isopropyl-1,3-thiazole-4-carboxylate is a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) inhibitor that has been shown to have antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus, Enterobacter cloacae, Klebsiella aerogenes, and methicillin resistant Enterobacter cloacae. Methyl 2-amino-5-isopropyl-1,3-thiazole-4-carboxylate inhibits the growth of bacteria by preventing DNA replication and transcription. This activity can be attributed to its ability to bind to the active site of bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. Methyl 2-amino-5-isopropyl 1,3 thiazole 4 carboxylate has also been shown to inhibit the growth of Gram negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Enterobacter aerogenes.
