2-Methoxypyrimidine-4,6-diol is a photochemically active molecule that can be used in analytical chemistry and supramolecular chemistry. It has been shown to have kinetics and functional theory properties that are similar to those of pyridine and can be used as a catalyst for organic reactions. 2-Methoxypyrimidine-4,6-diol has also been studied for use as a sensor for carbohydrates. This molecule is structurally similar to the natural product pyrazine, which is found in various plants. 2-Methoxypyrimidine-4,6-diol has been examined for its ability to inhibit the growth of bacteria such as E. coli and S. typhimurium by inhibiting protein synthesis through an enzyme called dihydrofolate reductase.
