2-Methylpyrrolidine is a colorless liquid that is soluble in water and has a distinctive smell. It is used as an inexpensive solvent for the synthesis of organic compounds, such as medicines, pesticides, and polymers. 2-Methylpyrrolidine is also used as an inexpensive inhibitor drug to control the production of amines. The functional group of 2-methylpyrrolidine is a hydrogen bond, which can form hydrogen bonds with amines to inhibit their production.
2-Methylpyrrolidine is also used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals for the treatment of hypertension, asthma, and diabetes mellitus type II. It has been shown to have antihypertensive effects due to its ability to inhibit angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE).
