4-Methoxythiophene-3-carboxylic acid is a phosphonium compound that can be synthesized by the reaction of methylthiophene with deuterium. This compound is used in labelling studies to detect the presence of cyclisation, extrusion and pyrolysis reactions. It also has a variety of analogues that can be synthesized from methoxythiophene or heterocyclic compounds.
