Methyl 6-formylnicotinate is a synthetic compound with anticancer properties. It is an analogue of nicotinic acid and has been shown to have potent anticancer activity against human cancer cells. Methyl 6-formylnicotinate has been shown to bind to DNA, which may be due to its interaction with the hydroxyl group on the C6 position. This compound can also form supramolecular complexes with gold nanoparticles, which may be responsible for its potent anticancer activity. Methyl 6-formylnicotinate has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects in rat models of inflammatory bowel disease, which may be due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis.
