7-Methoxy-3,7-dimethyloctan-2-ol (DM7) is a molecule that belongs to the class of alcohols. It has a hydroxyl group and an alcohol group. DM7 is used in skin care products as an antioxidant, anti-aging agent, and matrix metalloproteinase inhibitor. DM7 has been shown to inhibit matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), which are enzymes that degrade collagen and other proteins in the extracellular matrix, leading to skin aging. DM7 also protects against UV radiation damage by inhibiting reactive oxygen species generation by MMPs.
