6-Methylimidazo[2,1-b][1,3]thiazole-5-carboxylicacid is an amide derivative that is a catalyst for the transformation of amines into other compounds. It has been shown to be effective in converting chloride to pyrimidine-6-carboxylic acid and chirality to optical activity. This compound also can be used as a chiral auxiliary because it is not affected by the configuration of the substrate. The compound is stereoisomeric with two molecular forms, each containing a single asymmetric carbon atom.
