1-Methyl-5-nitro-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylicacid (1MNP) is a prodrug that is metabolized in vivo to its active form, 1-methyl-5-(nitrosomethyl)-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylic acid. 1MNP has been shown to be effective against escherichia coli and other gram negative bacteria in vitro. The drug is stable in the presence of hydrochloric acid and nitrite and has good chemical stability. 1MNP has been shown to be effective against murine models of infection with escherichia coli. This compound also has a pharmacokinetic profile that may allow for once daily administration.
