Descrizione

2-Methyl-1,2-di-3-pyridyl-1-propanone (2MDP) is a pharmacological agent that has been shown to have an effect on locomotor activity. It is also believed to have effects on other physiological processes such as blood sampling and enzyme activities. 2MDP has been found to induce the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in cell nuclei from rats treated with ketoconazole enantiomer, which may be due to its ability to bind to DNA. This compound has also been shown to cause a number of side effects in untreated animals, including weight loss, anorexia, diarrhea, and respiratory distress. These side effects are thought to be due to the inhibition of steroidogenesis by 2MDP. 2MDP is being investigated for use in the diagnosis of Cushing's syndrome and experimental models of Cushing's syndrome are currently being used.
