Methyl isocyanoacetate (MIC) is a compound that has been shown to inhibit the production of inflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin-1β, tumor necrosis factor α, and IL-8. These compounds are important in the development of cancer and inflammatory diseases. MIC also inhibits serine protease activity and choroidal neovascularization in animal models. This drug also has anti-inflammatory effects on human tissue, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of prostaglandins by blocking the conversion of arachidonic acid into prostaglandin H2. The carbonyl group on MIC interacts with amines on proteins, preventing them from forming covalent bonds with other proteins.
