(E)-3-Methylpent-2-en-4-yn-1-ol is a synthetic, specificity multigram carbonic formylation acetylation alcohol group with a 6-membered farnesyl diphosphate. It has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of diphosphate synthase in porcine liver mitochondria and can be used as an antifungal agent. (E)-3-Methylpent-2-en-4-yn-1-ol reacts with the active site of the enzyme and binds to it through its carbonic acid group, which is stabilized by hydrogen bonding. The kinetics of this reaction have been studied using palladium complexes as catalysts.
