The oil is used in the production of flavorings for food and beverages, such as coffee. 2-Methyl-5-propionylfuran has been used as a reagent in analytical methods such as high performance liquid chromatography, and can be recycled from other processes such as dehydrogenative or preparative Friedel-Crafts acylation.
