Meloxicam-d3 is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that belongs to the class of carboxylic acid derivatives. It has been shown to have a high matrix effect in animals and is used for the treatment of chronic arthritis and other inflammatory diseases. Meloxicam-d3 is a prodrug that is hydrolyzed to its active form, meloxicam, by esterases present in plasma and tissues. The absorption of meloxicam-d3 after oral administration can be affected by changes in body mass index or by an acidic environment. This drug also has a short half-life, which makes it difficult to measure plasma concentrations accurately. However, blood sampling is a reliable way to determine plasma concentrations of drugs with short half-lives because the concentration remains unchanged after passage through the liver.
