- Myxothiazole A
Myxothiazol is an organic chemical that inhibits the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) by nitric oxide synthase, a key enzyme in the synthesis of nitric oxide. Myxothiazol also inhibits protein oxidation and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The rate constant for myxothiazol's inhibition of the nitrate reductase enzyme has been determined using x-ray diffraction data. Myxothiazol binds to cytochrome P450, which plays a role in the inflammatory response to bacterial infection, and to toll-like receptor 4, which is involved in cellular signaling. In vitro studies have shown that myxothiazol is able to inhibit mitochondrial respiration in photosynthetic bacteria. The wild-type strain of E. coli was used as a model system for these studies.
