Descrizione

3-Mercapto-2-methylpropanoic acid is a metabolite of asparagus, which has been shown to suppress the virus that causes AIDS. The mechanism of action of 3-mercaptopropionic acid is believed to be through its ability to inhibit the enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of 3-mercaptopropionate into 3-mercaptopropionic acid. This inhibition leads to the accumulation of 3-mercaptopropionate, which eventually inhibits HIV protease and prevents the production of new viruses.
3-Mercapto-2-methylpropanoic acid also acts as a competitive inhibitor for other molecules, such as inhibitors in biochemical reactions. It also has been shown to have anti-cancer properties by inhibiting tumor cell growth and inducing apoptosis.
