2-Methyl carbamazepine is an anticonvulsant drug that belongs to the class of drugs called dibenzazepines. It is used in animals and humans for the control of generalized tonic-clonic (grand mal) seizures, as well as partial seizures. 2-Methyl carbamazepine has a low bioavailability, which means it is not readily absorbed by the body. This drug is extensively metabolized by the liver, with metabolites being excreted through urine. 2-Methyl carbamazepine can be detected in tissues following perfusion with a fluorescent dye or by using miniaturized assays on chromatographic columns.
