Methyl a-bromo myristate is an anionic surfactant that is used in the manufacture of detergents, shampoos, and cosmetics. It has been shown to be effective at low concentrations for the removal of various organic stains. Methyl a-bromo myristate has a viscosity of about 1 mPa·s and a critical micelle concentration (CMC) of about 10 mg/L. The micelles form spherical aggregates called "gemini" or "wormlike micelles." These aggregates can be seen using microscopy techniques such as electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy.
Methyl a-bromo myristate is soluble in hydrocarbons, alcohols, and chlorinated solvents.
