1-Methyl-4-phenyl-4-piperidinol is a tetrahydropyridine that has been used to treat a variety of diseases, including Parkinson's disease. It may act by inhibiting the dopamine receptor and preventing the synthesis of dopamine. 1-Methyl-4-phenyl-4-piperidinol has also been shown to exhibit pharmacological activity in vivo as well as in vitro. In vivo assays have shown this drug to be effective in reducing levels of fluoroarenes, which are toxic substances that inhibit mitochondrial function. This drug also blocks the production of norepinephrine, which is involved in neurotransmission.
