2-Methyl-5-pyrimidinol is an antibacterial agent that has been shown to be effective against gram-negative bacteria. It inhibits the synthesis of bacterial DNA by binding to the gyrase enzyme, which is involved in the process of replication and transcription. 2-Methyl-5-pyrimidinol has been shown to be active against a wide range of gram-negative pathogens and resistant to beta lactam antibiotics. This drug also prevents bacterial cell division by inhibiting protein synthesis. 2-Methyl-5-pyrimidinol is used as an additive in plastics, textiles, wood, paper, and paints.
