Methoxycarbonylsulfenyl chloride is a sulfenyl chloride that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. It inhibits the production of prostaglandin E2 and leukotriene B4, which are inflammatory mediators that can cause pain and swelling in the joints. Methoxycarbonylsulfenyl chloride has also been shown to be effective against cancer cells, but not healthy cells. The mechanism of action is not yet known, although it may be due to its ability to alter the conformation of DNA by binding to the hydroxyl group on guanine nucleotide. Methoxycarbonylsulfenyl chloride fluoresces when exposed to near-ultraviolet light, which can be used as a fluorescent assay for this compound.
