Methacrylamide is a monomer that has been used in the synthesis of polymers. It is a chain-forming, reactive monomer that links to other chains with ester linkages. Methacrylamide is used as an anti-infective agent and has been shown to inhibit bacterial growth by reacting with the amide group in peptidoglycan, thereby inhibiting cell wall synthesis.
