4-Methylpyridine-2-carbonitrile is a chemical compound that is used in the synthesis of other compounds. It is a colorless liquid with a pungent odor. 4-Methylpyridine-2-carbonitrile has been shown to inhibit cardiac myocytes by ammonolysis and sulphate formation. The reaction rate can be increased by catalytic action, which may lead to an increase in the formation of acid. Functional theory suggests that this compound may inhibit cardiac muscle activity because it increases the concentration of Ca2+ ions and causes overload. 4-Methylpyridine-2-carbonitrile also interacts with metals such as copper and zinc, forming coordination complexes or chelates.
