2-Methoxyphenylboronic acid is a boron compound that can react with organic compounds to form new carbon-carbon bonds. It is used in biological systems as an enzyme inhibitor and has been shown to be specific for epidermal growth factor receptor. 2-Methoxyphenylboronic acid binds to the active site of epidermal growth factor (EGF) receptor, which prevents the activation of the EGF signaling pathway. This inhibition results in decreased proliferation of epidermal cells and leads to the inhibition of cell growth. 2-Methoxyphenylboronic acid also inhibits the production of proton by binding to ATPase, which may result in a decrease in ATP synthesis and cell death.
