Moricizine is a drug used in the treatment of congestive heart failure and coronary heart disease. It belongs to the class of drugs known as cardiac glycosides, which are drugs that increase the force and rate of contraction in the heart. Moricizine is an ester hydrochloride that has been shown to inhibit atrial and ventricular contractions, increasing cardiac energy metabolism. Moricizine also has anti-inflammatory effects on the heart, reducing myocardial infarct size and improving ventricular function. Moricizine can be used for long-term therapy to maintain normal cardiac function in patients with structural heart disease or chronic oral administration for infectious diseases such as tuberculosis or malaria.
