2-Methylquinolin-3-amine is a reagent that is used in the synthesis of various biologically active compounds. It has been shown to react with other molecules such as anilines, azaindoles, and biomolecules. The compound can be modified by reactions with thionyl chloride, aldehydes, or modifications. Reactions with 2-methylquinolin-3-amine are important for the synthesis of many drugs such as aminoquinoline and thionyl chloride. The reaction mechanism for this compound has not yet been elucidated; however, it is thought to involve nucleophilic substitution at the methyl group on the 2 position of the quinoline ring.
