Methyl 6-acetoxyangolensate has been shown to be effective against malaria, as it inhibits the growth of Plasmodium falciparum by disrupting DNA synthesis. The compound also has a toxic effect on insects, as it prevents the uptake of diacetate, a sugar molecule that is essential for energy production. Methyl 6-acetoxyangolensate can be synthesized from benzoic acid or methyl 3-hydroxybenzoate.
